Hygiene Index

Privacy

Hygiene Index is run by Source 120 (source120.com), who you can contact at hello@hygieneindex.co.uk. Browsing the site doesn't need an account, and the site sets no cookies. If you use the light/dark switch, your browser remembers that choice on your device; it isn't sent to us.

Email alerts

If you ask to be emailed when a business's rating changes, we store:

We use these to send the alerts you asked for, plus the confirmation email that starts them. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by confirming and can withdraw at any time. We never sell or share your address, and we only send round-ups if you separately ask for them (below).

To limit abuse, sign-ups are rate-limited by IP address. That check happens on Cloudflare's network as you submit the form; the address itself isn't stored.

Round-ups (optional)

When you sign up for alerts you can also tick a box for occasional round-ups of food hygiene news for your area. The box is never ticked for you, and alerts work the same either way. If you tick it and confirm by email, we record that you agreed, when, and the exact wording you agreed to. You can stop round-ups at any time from the link in any email, without affecting your alerts.

How long we keep it

Until you stop your alerts. Every alert email has a link to stop one business or everything, and "Stop all alerts" deletes your address straight away. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after 7 days.

Who processes it

The site, its database and its emails all run on Cloudflare, which processes the data on our behalf. Cloudflare may handle data outside the UK under the safeguards in its data processing terms.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you by emailing hello@hygieneindex.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
